This course explores the foundations of character development through selected Ahadith from Sunan Abu Dawood, specifically Kitab al-Adab (The Book of Manners), alongside relevant Qur’anic guidance from Surah Hujurat, which provides essential principles on social conduct and improving character.
Through guided discussions, reflective exercises, and supplementary readings, participants will connect classical Islamic teachings with real-life situations, enabling meaningful personal and social transformation. The course will also review contemporary scientific and academic research from behavioral sciences, Islamic sciences and professional ethics to better understand foundations and the process of improvement of ethics and moral behavior.
Course Outcomes
- Understand the foundations of ethical conduct and key character traits in Islam, and recognize the importance of personal improvement
- Learn key character traits taught in the Ahadith (Kitab ul Adab from Sunan Abu Dawood) and the Qur’an (selected verses)
- Apply these teachings in everyday interactions and decisions
- Reflect on and improve personal behavior based on Islamic guidance
Instructor:
Ahmed Makki has completed four years of classical Islamic education (Dars-e-Nizami) and is currently pursuing advanced studies in Hadith. He has also completed an advanced Qur’anic Tafseer course from the White Thread Institute. Alongside his Islamic studies, he is a working professional, a graduate of LUMS, and holds a Master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. He regularly conducts learning sessions and workshops, bringing a practical, real-world lens to the understanding of hadith and offering guidance that connects Islamic teachings to everyday life.
